Tales of Symphonia, like previous Tales games, is divided into three sections: an overworld field map, town and dungeon maps, and a battle screen.The overworld map is a 3D model that depicts a scaled-down version of the game's fictional world that the player travels through to reach the game's locations. The global map may be traveled on foot, on the party's quadrupedal pet Noishe, or in flying vehicles known as Rheairds, like in previous games in the series. The battle screen is a 3D depiction of a location in which the user leads the protagonists in battles against CPU-controlled adversaries.
