Hiromi, a high school freshman, joins the tennis club because she admires Ryuzaki. Ryuzaki is a senior who is the team's finest tennis player and is known as "Ochoufujin," or "Madame Butterfly," for her grace on the court. However, Hiromi's new coach, Jin Munakata, wants her to participate in an upcoming tournament despite her lack of experience. Hiromi considers retiring from tennis as a result of this, but she soon realizes that she likes the sport after all. She returns to the club and begins to blossom under Munakata's tutelage. Hiromi builds a strong emotional link with her coach in the end, unaware that Munakata is putting his life on the line due to a persistent disease.
