The Niflheim Empire and the kingdom of Lucis have been at odds for many years. After dominating much of Eos, the empire seeks the power of the final known Crystal, which is held in Lucis' capital city, Insomnia. To defend his people from these invading invaders, King Regis Lucis Caelum CXIII utilized the power of the Crystal to create a magical wall around Insomnia. Along with this barrier, Regis organized the Kingsglaive, an elite military task force. The Kingsglaive safeguard Lucis' boundaries from the invasion of the empire and those forces that would do them harm by taking their power from the monarch. Nyx, a member of the Kingsglaive who has been dubbed "The Hero" by his peers, is one such member.
