Following the events of the Inter-High, the Karasuno High School volleyball team decided to recover by attending a boot camp in Tokyo arranged by Nekoma High School. The squad continues to lose to the other schools in attendance during the camp. At a crossroads, the players each try to break out of their habit in order to perfect their talents. The frustrations force Shouyou Hinata and Tobio Kageyama, the team's setter-and-ace tandem, to falter more than anybody else. While Hinata develops his own style, his recklessness causes him to go out of rhythm with Kageyama's sets, earning him his partner's wrath instead. As they seek an answer to their problems, the two discover what they are missing from two unusual sources.
