Death does not have to be the end; one can resurrect by defeating the game posed by the black ball known as Gantz. Masaru Katou, a strong and kind-hearted student, is stabbed to death on his way home to celebrate his younger brother's birthday. He awakens in a little room in the middle of Tokyo with a metropolitan view—and he is not alone. To his amazement, it is not the afterlife, but rather the waiting room for a high stakes game in which their lives are at risk. Before he can grasp the situation, Masaru is handed a rifle and transported into the heart of Osaka to do one simple task: kill any extraterrestrial on sight. Yoshikazu, the elderly, accompanies them.
